inuyasha and kagome

Starting out as another typical girl time travels and meets hero type romance, I was shocked in the beginning that after rescuing Kagome the first time - Inuyasha tries to attack her! There have always been variations to the normal of course, but never before had I read a story about a relationship that I knew was supposed to be there - where the guy almost kills the girl on first sight. Awesome, certainly a new, interesting, take on things.

Inuyasha, being sealed for fifty years with no realization of how much time has past, is awaken by Kagome who was being attacked nearby. After the inital confrontation of Kagome convincing Inuyasha that she was not a strange woman named Kikyou, Inuyasha is unsealed by Kagome in order to save all of their lives.

Afterwards, Inuyasha goes after Kagome because she possesed the jewel that he was after before being sealed, the Shikon no Tama; but a spell is put on him in Kagome's defense that whenever she said the word "sit" he would slam non too gently into the ground. Now being forced to be in the company of Kagome, as he didn't just want to leave without the jewel but currently had no way of getting it and then the tragic event of Kagome shattering it into thousands of little pieces and have them fly all over the country, Inuyasha starts to slowly be able to trust her.

Kikyou is revived though and the story of what really happened is revealed. With that, Inuyasha is left more confused than ever and decides to make it up to Kikyou by going to hell with her. However, Kagome is involved with causes Inuyasha to hesitate. Kikyou, however, is still confused at this point and has not really been able to understand everything that happened. So Inuyasha makes a promise with Kikyou to go to hell with her one day, which really puts a damper on any start of a romance that Inuyasha and Kagome could have had. Despite his promise, which Kikyou really wasn't holding him to, Inuyasha and Kagome obviously begin to have romantic feelings for each other; but because of Inuyasha's loyalty to Kikyou, who wasn't able to rest in peace yet, he chooses to ignore them.

Yet as the series progresses, Inuyasha seems to reach some sort of personal decision whilas Kagome admits to herself that she loves him and wants to stay with him no matter what. After such, Inuyasha still meets Kikyou but for more and more Naraku based talk than anything. However, Kagome constantly becomes jealous and upset every time Inuyasha leaves to meet with Kikyou and Inuyasha attempting to maim Kouga when he comes near Kagome. Other than such, and the shared meetings, hand holding, obvious trust and protection the relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome comes to a standstill rather than advancing. It's more as though they each personally acknowledge that they have feelings for each other but will not admit it out loud in case something happens. Outwardly though, everyone can tell as it's been said that they act like husband and wife.

However, with the recent developments in the manga - I wouldn't be surprised if soon we start to get some serious answers about where the Inuyasha and Kagome relationship is headed.
