kikyou
Kikyou is an extremely powerful miko who was given the task by youkai hunters to purify and protect the powerful Shikon no Tama. Unlike other women her age, Kikyou was a symbol to the villagers. Always tending to the sick, being kind, fighting the youkai and an extert in archery - Kikyou was not allowed to be herself. Even though at times she wanted to act like normal women - wear makeup and fall in love - she never allowed herself because she always thought of her people first.
Her life became even more hectic with the appearance of the Shikon on Tama because of the increase of attacks on the village. The Shikon no Tama was a powerful jewel that could be used for good and for evil; it had the ability to grant wishes or even to make a youkai more powerful.
Then along came Inuyasha, a hanyou after the jewel. However, instead of killing him like all the others - Kikyou found herself unable to and constantly let him live no matter how many time he attempted to attack her or steal the Shikon no Tama. Eventually, the attempts of robbery turned into something that she and Inuyasha looked forward to because it always led to them talking, and soon she realized that Inuyasha wasn't much different than her. Kikyou fell in love with the hanyou and it was the same for him.
The only problem was that Kikyou was still a miko and Inuyasha was a hanyou. Not only that, she still had the Shikon no Tama to deal with. However, she came up with a plan that Inuyasha agreed to, that they would use the Shikon no Tama to turn Inuyasha into a human so he could live an ordinary life and the Shikon no Tama would completely purify and vanish - which would make her an ordinary woman free to marry him.
While waiting for Inuyasha to arrive on the day planned, Naraku, disguised as Inuyasha, appeared and attacked her - fatally wounding her. Naraku then informed Kikyou that he never intended to use the jewel to become human in the first place, and as he took the jewel from Kikyou, told her that he was going to go back to kill the villagers. Kikyou forced herself to go back to the village - all the while heartbroken and wondering why Inuyasha would trick her like that. Upon arriving on scene, she spots Inuyasha fleeing with the Shikon no Tama and shot an arrow at him - sealing him to a tree. After that, Kikyou gave in to her weakness and just before she died requested that her sister, Kaede, and the villagers burn the Shikon no Tama with her remains.
She remains dead for fifty years before forcibly being brought back to life by a youkai named Urasue. At first, Urasue, who had used Kikyou's ashes and dirt from her grave to make a new body for her, tried to get Kikyou to become her mindless zombie upon her revival. Since Kikyou was a very powerful miko it might have been a good plan except for the fact that Kikyou, upon being revived using Kagome's soul, was brought back mentally at the time when she had died. Inuyasha being on scene didn't help much either because immediently she remembered his betrayal and attempted to kill him. However, things become confusing because Inuyasha had no idea what she was talking about and before she could make sense of things, her soul mostly returned to Kagome. Upset, Kikyou tried to get away from the group before accidently falling off a cliff.
After finally calming down, and one attempt to take Inuyasha to tell with her out of desperation before realizing that their relationship could never be the same again, Kikyou decides to live on as much as she can. Considering that she's dead and Kagome got her soul back doesn't make things any easier and so in order to remain alive Kikyou uses her shinidamachuu to supply her with enough souls to keep living. No longer after Inuyasha, Kikyou's new goal was to purify the Shikon no Tama, once completed again, along with Naraku in order to bring everything to closure.
This is where the fandom of anti-Kikyou likes to draw their complains about her character from. As Kikyou travels she does some questionable things that doesn't make any sense at the time. However, everything Kikyou does is always for the main goal of defeating Naraku. As the story goes on though, Kikyou makes even more important appearances such as trying to help Miroku when he has problems with the kazanaa and even taking Kohaku, Sango's little brother who is also an undead, under her protection.
Rumic Alikes
Mana, the heroine from the sidework but popular, Mermaid Forest. In the very beginning Mana reminds me very much of Kikyou. Not only are their appearances similar but they have the same kind of nonchalant attitude. It's not as though they don't care, it's that they have other priorities and can't be bothered by the insignificant details.
However, they also each have a kindness that attracts others to them. They are very observant and care about the situations of other people. Being empathetic souls, they try in their own way to make someone in obvious distress comfortable. Also quite similar is the way they just say whatever is on their mind without any kind of tactness, which makes their character them.
